› In order to install a DVD/RAM copier/burner (Japanese domestic model), I need to have the MS Unicode font (Arial Uni.TTF, 23,560 KB) installed in order to install the hardware on an English system running Windows XP. Microsoft does not provide the download of this font anymore since it is included in the Japanese version of Windows XP. Something which I do not possess. So far I haven't found many download sites, but they will always direct me to the official Microsoft download page. Does anybody have an idea where to download this font? Without it, the text parts of the hardware installation appear as????????

We finally found the solution.

Under Windows Server 2008, some fonts are hidden. The fact is: if a font is installed but hidden, you cannot use it. Does anybody have an idea where to download this font? Without it, the text parts of the hardware installation appear as????????

Windows XP, as with all the NT versions, includes Unicode support inherently, not in a special font. However, you can install Japanese language support under Regional options, and then the font variant you want should become available.

You also can select the codepage conversion tables to install (which you'll need to do - perhaps 932 or 20290?) For example, by default in W2K, if I open Charmap and switch to Arial font, I can set 'windows japanese' as the 'character set'. I also can then group by Unicode sub-range to include just Japanese Hiragana/Katakana, but since I haven't installed that regional support, there is 'nothing there' yet (no characters show.).

Now, after installing the Japanese support and rebooting, I can set the Arial font to Character set of 'Windows Japanese', group by, say, Japanese Kanji by Hiragana, and the system will automatically provide the ideograph subset through MS Mincho. Note that I am not familiar enough with Japanese to know which Japanese subset you need, but one of the available ones should suffice. As for your currently being able to read & write Japanese on your setup, you don't say in which programs, and the handling of such issues varies from program-to-program.

For example, you may have just installed Japanese-specific fonts, or may be using WordPerfect which comes with Japanese-language characters. Neither of which will help you with the OS issue for installing hardware. Microsoft has removed the Arial Unicode MS Font for Publisher 2000 free download. The font is still available as part of Microsoft Office XP and Microsoft Publisher 2002. Liz, THANKS A LOT for providing this URL! I am presently downloading. The strange thing is that Google didn't find this goody. It must be the only one left in the entire world. You're quite welcome, Sigi. I hope your installation went well. By the way, I did found the font on google.

When I have trouble finding stuff, I'll try my search here: Sometimes using another language may widen the search. Post navigation.
